How to choose the right venue.
Before comparing names, it helps to answer a few honest questions - the same ones we ask every couple who reaches out to us.
Palace or Vineyard?
Palaces and estates (Sintra, Lisbon, Douro) suit a formal, editorial feel. Coastal and countryside venues (Comporta, Alentejo, Algarve) suit a relaxed, barefoot-luxury one. Decide the mood first - the region tends to follow.
How Will Guests Arrive?
Lisbon and Porto have international airports on the doorstep. The Douro Valley and Alentejo are more remote and beautiful for it, but ask about drive times and accommodation before committing.
One Day or a Weekend?
If you're planning welcome dinners, pool parties or a farewell brunch, look for venues with on-site accommodation and space for multiple events, not just a ceremony and reception.
What Does It Look Like on Camera?
Photos on a venue's own website are staged for real estate, not for your film. Ask whoever is filming or photographing for you what the light, sound and flow are actually like on a real wedding day.

We don't recommend a venue because it's popular or photographs well online. We recommend it because we've seen it work - the light, the flow of the day, the way guests move through the space - in person.
Frequently asked questions.
When should we book our venue?
Most couples book their venue 9–14 months ahead, especially for peak season (June–September). Popular venues in Sintra and Lisbon get booked out furthest in advance.
Are most venues exclusive use?
It varies. Private estates and quintas are usually exclusive to your wedding; some palace venues can be shared with day visitors, so always confirm exclusivity directly with the venue.
Do venues include accommodation?
Some do, particularly palace hotels and resorts. Others are ceremony/reception spaces only. Check accommodation options for each region before booking guest travel.
Can we bring our own suppliers?
This depends on the venue - some require in-house or pre-approved suppliers, others are fully open. Always confirm this before booking your filmmaker, photographer or planner.
What happens if it rains?
Ask every venue about their indoor backup option before booking. The best venues in Portugal have a genuine plan B, not just a tent.
